COSMOS/Matrix

COSMOS is the university name for the new student information system and provides information about students at the point of application to the University.  Through this program, advisors can view the status of students who have applied to the University and summaries of their placement test scores and transfer grades at the time of application.  Student data is available in Cosmos prior to being entered into SIS.

In order to obtain Cosmos access, the advisor's supervisor must make a written request to the Cosmos Data Manager that includes the information that is included on the Cosmos website. The advisor must then attend a Cosmos training session for "ANSE Academic" access.

COSMOS was being developed and produced as a collaborative effort between Sungard SCT Inc., Exeter, Graduate College, University Information Technology Services (UITS), and Enrollment Management Systems Group (EMSG). COSMOS works in conjunction with Student Information System (SIS).

Matrix is the name of the software that supports student Financial Aid, Admissions and basic student biographical information. Registration and billing information remain in the legacy Student Information System, SIS. Matrix is produced by SunGard SCT Inc., and is built on Microsoft technologies.

Note: It is not uncommon to hear the terms "Matrix" and "COSMOS" used interchangeably when referring to the new student information system.
