Advising Policies & Procedures
In addition to official University policies from the Academic Catalog, advisors and students must also adhere to numerous college and department-specific policies and procedures.
Academic Catalog and Policies
The majority of University policies and procedures are organized in the academic catalog. Students are held to the policies and degree requirements outlined in their specific catalog year.
Declaring a Major or Minor
Procedures for declaring majors and minors, which may include meeting with new advisors or attending information sessions, vary among colleges and departments.
Double Dipping
Although no University policy exists regarding the use of single courses to fulfill multiple degree requirements, individual departments and colleges may have policies restricting this practice.
Forms and Processes
Many forms may be found online, while others require meeting with a specific individual or office.
General Education
Although general education requirements are fairly consistent across the University, variations exist according to major, catalog, and transfer credit earned.
Petitions and Grade Appeals
Formal petition procedures allow students to appeal grades and request exceptions to University-wide rules in certain situations.
Placement Information
English composition, mathematics, and second language form the foundation for all UA degrees. Students often need to establish their placement levels prior to taking courses in these areas.
Policy and Procedures Updates
Changes to policy and procedures that impact academic advising and other unique information that does not appear in the academic catalog are archived in this section.
