Special Student Populations

Although all students must adhere to the policies of their departments and of the University, many students have special needs or interests. These needs may be defined by a students' academic or personal background, or simply by the stage of his or her academic career. Numerous campus resources exist to support students throughout their years at the UA.

Evening & Weekend Students

Students who have day time weekday obligations are able to pursue undergraduate, and in some cases, graduate programs offered through the Office of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach.

First-Year Students

The transition from high school to college life can be confusing, if not overwhelming for many students. Many campus offices provide services to support students as they become accustomed to life at the U of A.

Graduating Seniors

Although graduation generally incites a sense of accomplishment, it can also be a source of confusion. The following services assist graduating seniors as they formally declare their intent to graduate, participate in university ceremonies, and prepare for life after college.

International Students

International students face the unique challenges of complying with complicated government regulations and acclimating to a new environment and culture. The UA provides extensive support to these students throughout their academic tenures.

Honors College Students

Admission to the Honors College is highly selective and competitive.  Current UA students are eligible to apply to the Honors College once they achieve a 3.5 GPA with at least 12 units completed.  Honors College students have access to Honors Courses, unique programs and resources, and many research opportunities with faculty.  The Honors College General Education Pilot Program is currently underway.

Returning Students

Whether their absence has been one semester or twenty years, returning students can use a variety of UA services in order to readjust to their academic environments and develop efficient plans for picking up where they left off.

Student Athletes

Student athletes are highly encouraged to work closely with both the academic advisors in their majors and the learning specialists in the C.A.T.S. academic program in order to receive advice about their academic progress and support in managing their demanding schedules, all while adhering to the guidelines of the NCAA.

Transfer Students

Ensuring that courses from other institutions can be applied toward a UA degree is one of the greatest concerns of transfer students. The UA provides multiple resources to assist both students who are transferring from other institutions and current students who wish to take classes at other schools as they make their course selections.

Veterans

As a hub of information for student veterans and veterans looking to enter the UA, the VETS Office is staffed by trained student veterans who have transitioned to the UA and are knowledgeable about the campus. VETS Office student workers offer individualized service to improve the experience of all vets at the UA. The VETS Office is a casual safe place for student veterans to relax and study.
