University Information System (UIS)

University Information Technology Services (UITS) maintains UIS, a repository of operational data that is extracted from the university's administrative systems. Users can make complex queries and generate detailed reports that integrate student, employee, course, and financial information. UIS access can be requested online through UITS.

Although UIS can provide a wealth of useful information, it takes considerable knowledge of these systems to successfully interpret UIS data and no formal training program exists. The UIS website provides some guidance in using system features, but assumes that users already have basic knowledge about UIS. Those interested in using system should talk with others in their department or college who are knowledgeable about the UIS in order to receive guidance and training. There is also a UIS listserv on which users can post questions to other system users.

Those interested in using this system may also refer to the unofficial Guide to Getting Started with UIS (DOC), which was created by Elliot Cheu, a faculty advisor from the Department of Physics and new user of UIS. This useful guide helps users make simple queries of UIS using Microsoft Access.
