Students in the Gender and Women’s Studies minor explore how gender shapes society, popular culture, history, economy, social movements, and knowledge in the Unites States and around the world. The study of women, gender, and sexuality is central to every field of knowledge today, and a Gender and Women’s Studies minor enables you to push the boundaries of knowledge in your major to address what matters to you most.
The Gender and Women’s Studies Minor requires 21 units with a minimum of 12 upper division units. Students should complete GWS 240 Gender in a Transnational World before attempting upper division GWS courses.
Gender and Women’s Studies does not permit double use of courses in its minor with any other majors or second minors. Exception: Students enrolled in a double degree program may use Gender and Women’s Studies courses from their GWS BA degree toward a GWS minor in the second degree.
Declaring the Minor
A student’s major advisor can declare the Gender and Women’s Studies minor. The major advisor should send an email to the Gender and Women’s Studies advisor which includes the student’s email address to be added to the Gender and Women’s Studies student listserv.
