The University of Arizona

New Student Orientation

All students are required to fulfill orientation requirements prior to registering for their first-semester courses at the UA. These programs are offered through the Office of New Student Orientation.

First-Time Freshmen

All freshmen are required to attend a two-day orientation program. During this event, students will become acquainted with the UA campus, learn about academic and social resources, meet with academic advisors, take placement tests, and register for their first semester's courses. Students will receive information about registering for orientation once they are admitted to the UA.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are required to complete an orientation process prior to registering for classes. Orientation requirements vary according to major and college. Upon being admitted to the university, transfer students will be directed toward an Online Academic Tour that will prescribe required placement exams and explain their specific orientation process. In addition to participating in mandatory major orientation procedures, transfer students are also invited to attend optional campus-wide transfer student programs that provide a more general introduction to the University of Arizona.

International Students

New international students must attend a multi-day orientation. Through this program, students will learn about academic and social resources, meet with academic advisors, take placement tests, register for courses, and become acquainted with the city of Tucson and the United States. The schedule is very structured and organized in order to expose students to as much information as possible, but also to provide practical steps for being successful in the American higher education system. Students will receive information about orientation registration after being admitted to the UA.
