From academics through socializing, college is a completely different world than high school. Preparation for these major life changes, ability to manage time, and willingness to take responsibility for one's academic and personal lives are key to the successful college experience.
A myriad of books have been written about the transition from high school to college life. Below is a list of some particularly useful resources:
The University of Arizona offers over 120 undergraduate degree programs to suit a variety of academic interests. Prospective freshmen that already have a major of interest are encouraged to research that program, while those who are still undecided should review the complete list of UA majors in order to learn about all of the university's options. New freshmen should not be surprised if they end up altering their initial academic plans, as many students change their majors multiple times.
The UA accepts several AP, IB, and CLEP exams toward major and general education requirements. High school students can check the "Policy" section of the most recent academic catalog to see what exam scores are required in order to earn credit for UA coursework.
Prospective students are highly encouraged to visit the UA in order to get a feel for this impressive campus. Short walking tours, day-long prospective student programs, and visits to real UA classes are all available by registration through the Office of Admissions.
High School counselors often serve their students as a link between high schools and universities. The Office of Admissions provides extensive information just for high school guidance counselors so they can more effectively assist their students in exploring the University of Arizona.
Career Services works with University of Arizona students to assist them in choosing and planning for a career, obtaining career-related experience (internship) prior to graduation, preparing for and obtaining post graduation employment and applying to graduate school. They provide assistance through counseling, workshops and presentations, and planning events that bring students and employers together, such as campus interviewing and career fairs.
