GENERAL EDUCATION
FOUNDATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Foundations requirements include First-year Composition, Mathematics and Second Language. Foundation course requirements vary depending upon degree program and catalog year.
FIRST-YEAR COMPOSITION REQUIREMENT
All bachelor's degrees have a composition requirement, and various options exist for students to satisfy that requirement.
MID-CAREER WRITING ASSESSMENT (MCWA)
Every undergraduate degree program requires satisfaction of the Mid-Career Writing Assessment (MCWA).
FOUNDATION MATHEMATICS REQUIREMENT
All majors require completion of at least one course to satisfy the mathematics requirement.
MATH SUBSTITUTIONS
Students seeking a substitution based on disability should see their advisor to find out if their major accepts math substitutions.
SECOND LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
Second language requirements vary depending on whether the degree is a B.A. on non-B.A. program.
Students may opt into a proficiency exam offered by the Department of Linguistics for languages not taught on campus, with the exception of those taught by the Critical Languages Program. Students will not receive any course credit for passing the exam, but their second language requirement will be waived if they pass the exam.
THE CRITICAL LANGUAGES PROGRAM
The Critical Languages Program was created in order to meet the need for instruction in less commonly taught languages which are not offered either by traditional departments or formats at UA.
SECOND LANGUAGE SUBSTITUTIONS
Students seeking a substitution based on disability should see their advisor to find out if their major accepts second language substitutions.
