PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND RESOURCES

Professional organizations and resources exist at both the university and national level.  Advisors are encouraged to take advantage of these resources in order to enhance their professional development, gain knowledge about innovative advising practices, and boost a sense of community among advisors.

 

A COMMONPLACE BOOK FOR ADVISORS

This collection of quotations and passages was created for academic advisors and other educators who are looking for sources of inspiration, reflection, and support for themselves and for their students.

 

THE MENTOR: AN ACADEMIC ADVISING JOURNAL

The Mentor, an online academic journal, provides a mechanism for the rapid dissemination of new ideas about advising and for ongoing discourse about advising issues.

 

NATIONAL ACADEMIC ADVISING ASSOCIATION (NACADA)

NACADA, the premier national advising organization, provides professional development opportunities through national and regional conferences, online resources, and numerous publications. ACADEMIC ADVISING COUNCIL (AAC)

Each college appoints a AAC representative who, along with an ASUA student representative and the Director of the Advising Resource Center, meet regularly to consider all issues relevant to academic advising. In addition, the charge of AAC is to guide the implementation of the recommendations brought forward by the Academic Advising Task Force.

 

UNIVERSITY PROFESSIONAL ADVISING COUNCIL (UPAC)

UPAC, the UA's campus-wide advising organization, serves all UA advisors and student services professionals. UPAC provides professional development opportunities and updates on the latest information about policy and services on campus. All advisors are encouraged to attend UPAC's monthly meetings and to join the UPAC listserv.
